What Inspired The Choice Is Yours?
A few years ago, I found myself, like most people at a crossroads in my life. I began evaluating every aspect of my life, and to be frank, after much self-evaluation and honesty, I realized there were some areas in which I was unhappy. Then I remembered, the wise words of my great-grandmother, “if you’re unhappy, then change your choices to make yourself happy”.
As a result, I began to reflect on the choices I had made throughout my life and the consequences that followed. I started to write down these experiences in a journal and it proved to be very therapeutic in my efforts towards making myself happy. Over a period of time, I recognized very clear and concise opportunities for change, and I decided to commit myself to gleaning the positivity from all life experiences. During this same time, I also discovered social media and was fascinating by the things people shared. Family celebrations, friendship reconnections, and vacation videos. They also shared their religious beliefs, their political rants and raves, what they loved, what they hated, what they supported, what they were against, and even what they had for dinner. After researching the online phenomenon that is social media, I decided to join the rest of the world and opened a Facebook profile. Like most people, I noticed that social media could be used for good or bad, truth or fiction, optimism or pessimism. So, one morning I decided to post one positive quotes to Facebook and to my surprise by the end of the day, I had over 250 likes. That was the day I had a life-changing epiphany – “The choice is yours”. I began to add it as a tagline at the end of each Facebook post and any travel videos I uploaded. Over a period of six months, I would post from time to time, and the respond was the same. Not only would people like my post, but they would also leave comments like, “Thank you for sharing today, you have no idea how much it helped me,” or “That post today was so timely” or “Your words really allowed me look at my life in a different way”.
After a year, I committed myself to posting positive and uplifting comments and quotes on social media each day. Hundreds of postings later, I realized social media had created a unique opportunity for me to offer a consistent source of positivity, encouragement, and empowerment for others.
As the months grew into years, I continued journaling and posting my thoughts and those thoughts eventually evolved into positive anecdotes and those positive anecdotes evolved into short stories and collectively they became the book…The Choice Is Yours.
